Secret Unknown Stuff: Escape from Dulce - Co-op Sci-Fi Fun!

Created by Sentient Cow Games

Escape from Dulce is a collaborative, sci-fi dungeon crawler for 1 to 5 players. Choose from one of 8 hilariously bizarre characters, who have been imprisoned on the bottom level of Dulce Base and have just awoken after a Cryo-Pod malfunction. The players must blast their way through a base full of self strategizing human and non-human enemies, as they attempt to traverse the seven nefarious levels of Dulce and escape to freedom.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Who Wants to See Some New Minis?!
almost 4 years ago – Fri, May 01, 2020 at 03:43:12 AM

Greetings Cows! We hope this update finds you all healthy and safe. We're in our sixth week of quarantine here in Los Angeles and I've taken to wearing tissue boxes as slippers and have long philosophical discussions with our cat, Bounce.

Actually, I've been mostly working from home for the last few years, so it hasn't been that much of a change. Sure, we're getting a little stir crazy, like everyone else, but we're in good health and trying to take this all in stride. At the same time, I can't wait to go over to Craig's place and have a nice cook out in the yard.

Speaking of cook outs, could you imagine these three "Somethings" having a BBQ together? Who wants a burger?

And how do giant robot's eat? Anyway, we hope you dig the new sculpts, as always, by the extremely talented Raul Tavares.

As an added bonus, we also got in the final cover art for "Journey to Point Pleasant"! Crank up John Denver's "Take me home, country roads", and praise the talents of Ron Joseph and Jesse Heagy!

Yes, there will jet packs!

We're making great progress on the new adventures and hope to be bringing them to Kickstarter soonish. I say soonish because we're still in the middle of a lot of craziness going on the world right now.

Everyone's got to adapt their routine right now, and that includes a lot of companies. We're very thankful that Sentient Cow Games is set up to weather this storm, but we also need to make some adjustments. This is why we've pushed out the date to our next Kickstarter until we see what the world looks like in a couple of months. Save your money. We'll be here later to scratch that itch when everything is looking a little rosier.

Please stay safe out there. If you've got to go outside, do the right thing and wear a mask. It's not just your health, it's the health and the safety of everyone around you. If Escape from Dulce taught you anything, it's that teamwork is important. And that alien probes are funny.

Seriously, we're all in this together. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Here it is! "We're All Gonna Die in Space"!
almost 4 years ago – Mon, Apr 20, 2020 at 03:28:38 PM

Hello out there Cow Army! We're hoping this finds everyone well and staying safe. It took us a bit longer to get this new adventure wrapped up, but we think you'll agree, that the wait was worth it. As happens often when we think up a new story, what starts as short and pretty cut and dry, quickly develops into something much larger that takes on a life of it's own.

We also wanted to give our wonderful cast of characters more of a voice and help show off their personalities and mannerisms. Raylock is as grumpy and sarcastic as you probably imagined him. Hattori is all heart, Donna is the brains of the group, and Adam is essentially a 14 year old boy.

This adventure should also give you a good idea of what the new expansion adventures will be like, at least as far as the storytelling aspect that we're trying to expand on.

Without further ado, the crazy minds at Sentient Cow Games give you "We're All Gonna Die in Space"!

Click here to download this adventure!

Once you've had a chance to check it out, let us know what you think! Also let us know if you spot any typos or if you have any questions about gameplay. As this is a downloadable adventure, we plan on making some updates as needed.

Most importantly, we hope this brings you a bit of a reprieve during these crazy times. We also hope it makes you laugh. A lot.

As an added bonus, we tried to work in a whole bunch of pop culture references. As it's Easter, let's play a fun little game of find the Easter Eggs! Call them out in the comments.

We're still moving forward with the next Kickstarter, but we're not going to be setting a date yet. Progress is being made, but at a slower pace, due to everything in the world right now. I know it's a bummer, that's why we wanted to give you this new adventure to help hold you over.

Please be smart and take care of yourselves out there. We've all got years of fun ahead of us!

Space Dolphins! Thunder Goblins! Shape Shifting Aliens and more!
about 4 years ago – Sun, Mar 22, 2020 at 02:25:47 AM

So, the world is a mess right now. Everyone is at least a little scared and unsure of where things are going. We hope you are coping with it as best you can and staying safe and sane in these uncertain times.

You're probably stuck at home right now like most people and looking for something to alleviate the boredom. We're currently working on a brand new special mission for Escape from Dulce that will hopefully help scratch your itch. It will be a free downloadable adventure and as long as you have a copy of EFD, you can play. Hell, even if you don't have a copy, just download it and catch up on where our cast of characters is currently at. It will be a fun read! Hopefully dropping in the next week. Stay tuned to this cow channel.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves, take care of each other, and call neighbors to check in. They may need a hand.

Much love,

Weller, Donna and Craig

May You Live in Interesting Times...
about 4 years ago – Sun, Mar 01, 2020 at 02:17:05 AM

Hello Cows!

"May you live in interesting times" can be both a blessing and a curse. The last few months have had their share of both, but sometimes you look around and realize you're right where you need to be. Seeing all the new adventures come together and laughing our way through huge stretches of it has been incredibly rewarding for all three of us. At the same time, we've had a lot of challenges to deal with as well.

We met a lot of new friends at PAX Unplugged and PAX South and caught up with a bunch of old friends. It was cool to have a bunch of reps for Frosthaven sit down to play EFD and then bring more friends over to play! I finally snagged myself a copy of Dice Throne season 2! We hung out with Jessie and Jan from Quackalope and filmed for 8 hours at their studio! I got a copy of Dune! We're partnering with Sandbox Gaming (mysandboxgaming.com) to create a deluxe insert for EFD! Playtesting the Attack on Atlantis expansion adventure out in the wild has been a blast!

Speaking of the new expansion adventures, everything is coming together nicely. We're hoping to get prototype copies of Mystery of Mount Shasta and Attack on Atlantis out to reviewers in the next few weeks. We cracked a huge nut in regards to gameplay for Journey to Point Pleasant and now things are falling into place much faster. Did we mention you're going to have to rescue Richard Gere in this one? Finally, the Jersey Devil adventure is being dialed in story-wise and we're getting a better handle on what we can get away with in this one, so we hopefully don't get sued. If we had Ozzy and Lemmy show up, we're gonna get sued (and get a lot of press out of it. Hmmmmmm....), but we can probably get away with Ozzy's headless bat or Lemmy's Hat.

When you're writing as a parody it can be a tight rope, and a bit more of a challenge. That's been one of the easier problems to navigate, compared to trying to figure out international shipping in the midst of Brexit, various trade wars and tariffs we didn't have to contend with the last campaign, and the coronavirus, which we're just starting to see the possible impact of. May you live in interesting times, indeed.

So we've got a lot more challenges going into this next campaign that we didn't have to deal with last time. We're figuring this all out and adapting our plan as we go. It's taken more time than we thought, but we've got to make sure we've got solutions for all of these problems before we launch. We're still shooting for late April, but everything is still fluid and we could have to push the date out again. May you live in interesting times!!!

The Hollow Moon

While our main focus lately has been the new adventure expansions for EFD, we've continued developing the second big game in the Secret Unknown Stuff trilogy, The Hollow Moon. This will be dropping in 2021. You'll be able to use characters from EFD in this, but The Hollow Moon will have a whole new cast of characters. Ten to be exact. These new "heroes" are a collection of cast offs from the early space race, abductees, and a variety of aliens/other things. So, here's a little preview of some of the characters you're going to meet in the next game.

Joey Fixit - If you've played the "Joey Fixit's Wild Ride" expansion adventure, you already know this guy. A super intelligent chimpanzee who is the kind of "leader" of the rebellion about to go down on the moon, but also our major link between the first two games.

Feldspar, Princess of the Moon Trolls - So.... when the aliens started hollowing out the moon to make their base they found an indigenous race living below the surface. These beings stand roughly 8-10 feet in height, are comprised of living rock, and had built a relatively advanced society. Most were enslaved by the aliens, but Feldspar, Princess of the Moon Trolls and a small band of loyal followers managed to escape. She is now the figurehead of the rebellion. Think of an 8 foot tall Princess Leia made of rock and you got it!

Dextros and Ciciros - Do you know how many dogs they shot into space in the 1950's? A lot! Some of these test flights were intercepted by the aliens and the "pilots" taken to the Hollow Moon base for further study and experimentation. Some of these dogs were given incredible intelligence in an effort to plant them back on earth as sleeper cells for the coming invasion. A few of these managed to escape and started breeding like crazy. Dextros and Ciciros are a two of the grandchildren. Dextros is parts pitbull, chow, and border collie, while Ciciros is a fierce little chihuahua pincer mix. They work together as a team with Cicoros sometimes catching a ride on Dextros' back to man a machine gun.

Klung the Conqueror - An intergalactic cephalopod with delusions of self-grandeur. He looks like an octopus piloting a small flying saucer. Not so much of a team player, he's on the moon for his own purposes, but is more than willing to make alliances if they advance his personal goals.

Mister Murder Mittens - Once a "pilot" on a Chinese space test flight, he was intercepted by the aliens in 1962 and taken to the hollow moon base. After years of genetic and surgical augmentation as well as assassin training, this once loving house cat escaped it's captors. Able to easily hide in the shadows due to his jet black fur, he stalks his prey and strikes before they can react. Come on, he's basically a ninja cat! Who doesn't want to play as a ninja cat!? He also love snuggles.

General Nibbles XXVII - He's a mouse. A mouse who has, with the help of his crew of 35 other rodents, retrofitted an enormous old mining suit originally used by the aliens. They've christened their mining suit "Mr. SQUEAK", an acronym for Super Quick Unstoppably Efficient Alien Killer. Think of the Big Daddy from Bioshock, but run be a group of three dozen rodents.

Pyotr Preobrazhenski - A Russian cosmonaut on a secret solo mission to the moon in 1958, he was abducted by the Grey Aliens in mid-flight and taken to the Hollow Moon base for experimentation. Oh, he's also a werewolf! Werewolf cosmonaut, how's that gonna work on the moon?

Amorphous Joe - Another experiment of the grey aliens gone horribly awry, this giant one celled organism has the ability to take the form of any teammate or enemy they have encountered within certain limitations. Also has a beautiful singing voice.

Captain Starblaster - A 1940's serial actor abducted by the grey aliens, Harley Jenkins played "Captain Starblaster" in a series similar to the Buck Rogers or Flash Gordan serials of the same time period. Charismatic and gung-ho, but slightly lacking in the brains department, he's Adam Starblaster's hero and who he took his name from. He is extremely out of his element, being on the moon, and rationalizes it by telling himself that they are filming the "Captain Starblaster" movie.

Audrey III - On the hollow moon, the aliens not only experimented on all sorts of animals, abductees, and moon trolls, but also a variety of vegetation. Their biggest project got away from them and escaped.

Sound off below and let us know what you think of our plans and the Hollow Moon characters. A preview page for the next campaign will be coming soon, and you'll all be given early access to it. As always, we'd love your  feedback.

Who wants to see some new minis?!
over 4 years ago – Thu, Dec 19, 2019 at 12:46:59 AM

Sometimes the wait is worth it. The stupendously talented Raul Tavares has brought another 4 of our characters into 3 dimensions! He always does amazing work, but boy oh boy did he knock it out of the park with these!

You've probably seen Sir Reginald the Cleaver, but we're going to repost him because he's just that cool. In addition, we've got Raul's takes on Umugatu, Joey Fixit, and the Tall Grey Alien Commander! All 4 of these will part of an upgrade pack for the first 2 expansion adventures.

HOLY COW!!!!

We hope you love them as much as we do! Wait, I said there were 4 new minis, didn't I? Sir Reg doesn't count since we posted him already, so who's the last guy? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Sharkasaurus, arch villain of Attack on Atlantis! Look at this and think of him screaming, "You'll never defeat me mouth breathers!" in the voice of Skeletor!

He is just soooooo cooooooool!

All of this and more can be yours in a few short months! We know we've had to push the next Kickstarter out a few times, but we're currently looking to drop it in March. We hope to see you all there. Without your support we wouldn't be able to keep bringing you all this weird stuff, so thank you for being there for us Cow Army!
