Secret Unknown Stuff: Escape from Dulce - Co-op Sci-Fi Fun!

Created by Sentient Cow Games

Escape from Dulce is a collaborative, sci-fi dungeon crawler for 1 to 5 players. Choose from one of 8 hilariously bizarre characters, who have been imprisoned on the bottom level of Dulce Base and have just awoken after a Cryo-Pod malfunction. The players must blast their way through a base full of self strategizing human and non-human enemies, as they attempt to traverse the seven nefarious levels of Dulce and escape to freedom.

Who's Up for Some More Adventures?
over 5 years ago – Fri, Sep 21, 2018 at 12:58:34 AM

Greetings Cow Army!

While most of our recent posts have been related to the production process of the game, we decided to do something a little different with this one. We've been very busy with finalizing production of the first game, but at the same time have continued development on the sequel, The Hollow Moon, and other additional content.

Before we all take a trip to the moon, we've got some other adventures we'd like you to take with us. There's still plenty of story telling left related to the characters of the first game and we plan on fleshing these tales out with more low priced expansions.

Here's a little preview of the first two tales. Please note that the cover art is not final, and we plan on getting these illustrations to the next level within the next few months.

"Strange things have been afoot on Mount Shasta! Odd lights surround the mountain at night and whispers can be heard coming from maze-like tunnels under Mount Shasta. Locals have started to disappear, and Blurry the Sasquatch contacts you for help when his family goes missing. Start your search in the forests, trying to locate a way into the dark heart of the mountain to solve the Mystery of Mount Shasta! Can you rescue Blurry’s family and the rest of the residents before it’s too late?"

That's right, you'll be traveling to Mount Shasta for a rescue mission centered around Burry the Sasquatch! Those evil Lemurians don't stand a chance now that Blurry becomes a fully playable character!

If the mountains aren't your thing, maybe you prefer a day at the beach?

"When a mysterious domed city surfaces off the coast of Los Angeles, it's up to our misfit heroes to reunite and stop an army of blood thirsty denizens from the deep! Thankfully, your fishy friend Kaltar has some insight into this. It is the legendary City of Atlantis, now turned into a mobile fortress controlled by the evil aqua priest, Sharkasaurus. Can you stop his nefarious plans to launch an invasion of the mainland and make humans into fish food? Good luck and may the fish be with you!"

Ok, maybe this won't be a day at the beach, but it's bound to be a memorable adventure. Join Kaltar the Atlantean, who now becomes a playable character, in his quest to infiltrate the lost city and overthrow it's evil new ruler!

We've got another two of these adventures up our sleeves and will drop more about those in the coming weeks. Our plan is to launch all four new adventures on Kickstarter in Spring 2019. We've only just begun to scratch the surface of all the Secret Unknown Stuff that's out there, and we hope you're all excited to take this journey with us!

Excelsior!

Manufacturing update, hard PVC minis, and dice! Oh my! :)
over 5 years ago – Fri, Sep 07, 2018 at 01:48:36 AM

Greetings Cow Army!!

It's been a few weeks since the last update but we have been busy wrapping up the last of the summer conventions here. San Diego Comic Con was a blast and the Professor and Ray got to do a little cos-play, Anime California introduced us to a new group of friends, Table Top Takeovers had us out to their charity event for Extra Life, and Strategicon is always our home away from home (Ray even got to do some victory dancing with our fan Captain Pikachu!).

Now onto the manufacturing update!! MOOOOOO!

We received our final dice and the final hard PVC minis. In the last update we said that there might be a slight loss of definition between the initial resin samples and the hard PVC. We couldn't be happier to report that the opposite was the case. The detail is incredible! The hard PVC will be what is shipped with the game and it is a slightly darker grey than they appear in the photos.

The dice are amazing and we took them out to the conventions to show them off. They roll really well and the oversized dice are super fun to throw! They were a big hit!

Five green dice do come with the game. They just forgot to send us one. ;P

As of Aug 21st this is where Eastar is with their manufacturing timeline (this includes the expansions):

1. miniature, the molds are done, we're waiting on the line to test the molds. (Notes from the cow - we had a few minor adjustments such as the old sculpt of Hittori popping back up but that has been fixed)

2. cards: off to production.

3. Box, punch boards and 2mm tiles: off to production.

4. Dice, off to production.

5. Rulebook, off to production.

6. File folders: off to production.

7. slider clips: (Notes form the cow - we just finished those up this week and they will be going off to production)

We are still on track to have manufacturing done by end of Oct and starting the ocean voyage phase. There will be about one last round of samples to approve and we will share those with you when we get them!

What's next you say?...well, we are already working on the Hollow Moon and the 4 additional expansions for EFD. We have a few more ideas in our wheel house as well. We will be taking a break from the cons for a few months to get things prepped for Hollow Moon play testing and should be back on the Convention circuit for PAX Unplugged and PAX South. As always we will be sharing this amooozing adventure with you all!

We couldn't ask to be part of a better herd!

Until next time, have a mooorvalous day/evening/morning/night! :D

Dice, Clips, Expansions, and Ray and the Professor run wild at SDCC!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 15, 2018 at 01:34:57 AM

Hello Cow Army!

First let's start with game updates!

Because you requested it Radioland, here are a few images from the 2-in-1 expansion. These are the printouts for checking the color and the standees for the two new bosses.

For the main game we also got the CAD file for the slider clip so we could check the measurements before they make the sample.

We will be getting the dice samples and a few more paper samples in the mail this week. Here is a photo from the factory of a few of the dice.

We have also decided to make all the punch boards linen coated. We didn't state during the campaign what finish the boards would have because we needed to start working with the manufacturer first to figure out what would look and work the best. The linen coat definitely won out over plain laminated or no coat and we want to make this the best game we can!

We are fast approaching the stage where the materials for mass production will be ordered and the print run will begin. We will have one final round of post production samples to approve and then we will be in the shipping phase. So far everything is still on track! :)

Hopefully next month we will start sharing some "work in progress" images for the Hollow Moon. Our office is filled with moon prototypes right now and the character illustrations are being worked on.

Weller and myself had a chance to go back East to visit some family and friends and brought along a copy of the game. It was great to finally sit down and see three generations escape the base together! They did an excellent job!

And Weller got a new shirt!

San Diego Comic Con was a ton of fun and we took a bunch of video that we will edit down and post on YouTube soon. In the mean time here are a few stills of Ray and the Professor running loose around the convention center, fighting a Jedi, meeting tiny Black Panther, and getting into a dance off with a blue man. Good times, good times!

We have a few conventions coming up in the So Cal area:

Anime California Aug 18th and 19th

A charity event for Extra Life on Aug 25th

Strategicon Aug 31st through Sept 3rd.

Check out our Facebook page for exact times and location and if you are in the area stop by and say hi!

Until next update, stay cool and keep moooovin on up!

Punch boards and paper component samples are here!
over 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 30, 2018 at 12:54:04 AM

Hello Cow Army!

This weeks sample update is all about color proofing the prints and checking paper stock and die lines. Here is our baby nestled in it's box. :D

The color proofs look fantastic! They are bright and crisp. Acid greens and oranges tend to get a bit muddy in 4 color printing, but they look great and Eastar knocked it out of the park.

We have legs! This sample is all hand cut in order to check our final die lines before the factory makes the die molds for mass production. We spent a lot of time with a micrometer measuring everything and it seems to have paid off!

Lookin' good alarm level and combat tracker!

We may have to adjust a few of the bleeds on the punch boards and the black ink in the manual needs to be punched up a bit but that is minor stuff and to be expected at this stage. Also the paper and glue is not final stage so it looks rough on the press boards. Don't fear! It is not final quality! We like to include these images though as it shows what to expect from "hand samples".

More photos and pics of some of the expansion stuff coming soon! We'll also be sharing some video footage from our trip to San Diego Comic Con. We brought Professor Scientist, and his assistant, Ray the Grey, along for the ride, so things got a little more interesting. Who knew that some people are absolutely freaked out by Grey Aliens?

Stay well and keep grazing in that clover until next week!

Weller, Craig, and Donna. :D

Final Manual and Flash Back Monday!

Greetings Cow Army!

We wanted to share the final manual with you. We hope you enjoy it! Below is a link to a downloadable PDF and a link to the web version.

If anyone is attending San Diego Comic Con we will be there Thursday through Sunday blasting our way through Dulce in the game section on the mezzanine level. Stop by and join us for a game! (we made a house for our minis!) :D

We also thought it would be fun to take a walk down memory lane and look at the how the game has evolved over the past few years. Professor Scientist and his assistant Ray will be your guides.

Lastly, our manufacturer let us know that the first pre-production samples for the press boards, cards, and box are on their way. Between that and photos from SDCC, next week's update should be fun!

until next week, keep moooooovin' on up!
